For two weeks now, "Your Name" or "Kimi No Wa" is topping the box office. The Japanese anime sensation might do it again for the next days as it is expected to hit more theatres in other parts of the world.

"Your Name" has been proudly dubbed as one of the greatest Japanese box office releases during 2016. Recently, reports surfaced that Makoto Shinkai's 2016 coming-of-age anime film is on the verge of surpassing one of Hayao Miyazaki's classics.

According to CrunchyRoll News, the movie has earned 19.4 billion yen in the Japanese box office, surpassing "Princess Mononoke's" 19.3 billion from 1997. It additionally reported that the anime streaming service converted its earnings to approximately $173 million.

With such great statistics, it implies that the film rests as the 6th most popular box office release in all-time Japanese history, beating out such international box office legends such as "Harry Potter" and the "Chamber of Secrets" and "Avatar."

According to Anime News Network, the film was bestowed with three standing ovations from the crowd during the Anime Expo. With great reviews and the continuing hype among the audience of all ages, "Your Name" is expected to easily top anime sales and gain positive viewership in the West.

Mike DuBoise, the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Funimation, which holds the film license, was quoted as saying, "We're incredibly excited to bring this Oscar-worthy film from Makoto Shinkai to audiences across the U.S. and Canada."

"Your Name" director Makoto Shinkai admitted that he is shocked to see American audience who are also fans of "Kimi no Na wa" film. He also said that he wants his film to be a unique story for the audience.

"Kimi No Na wa" Shinkai said he wanted to pursue these themes because he feels that everyone is always looking at tomorrow wondering who we're going to meet. He said he wanted to explore the future. He also said he wanted to avoid the story of un-swapping bodies predictable, and the film uses a series of twists and plays on audience expectations that give the movie a fresh meaning.

Moreover, the "Kimi No Wa" director is expected to receive an Oscar nomination this year.
