People thought that the trend of big-name torrent sites going down have cooled down, though it might be the other way around as ExtraTorrent is in a little risk of biting the dust.

As recently reported at TorrentFreak, ExtraTorrent just lost three major domain mirrors. For some reason, nobody can actually explain how and why the site's operator lost control over the domain registrar's control panel.

ExtraTorrent is one of the most popular and most visited torrent sites aside from The Pirate Bay and it wouldn't be a surprise to anybody of this had anything to do with a copyright complaints. It didn't take that long for the three official mirror sites to be unaccessible. These sites are extratorrent.rocks, etproxy.top and extratorrent.date.

ExtraTorrent reached out to TorrentFreak and have mentioned about Subreg.cz being the one responsible for the blockage of access. However, the registrar only told ExtraTorrent that they do not have any say in the matter and that ExtraTorrent may need to take it to the court.

They've been told that Subreg never had any access to the three domains in question and that these sites weren't actually blocked from their end. They merely got a complaint that they have sent to the account holder and have mentioned about them operating and complying with ICANN rules.

What was interesting is that, despite the idea that another higher entity had been involved, not a single WHOIS information was left, making the changes untraceable.

There's no telling whether the three blocked domains will be back up, though ExtraTorrent advises users to use the other working mirror site instead, which is extratorrent.cc extratorrent.site and extra.to are also still working at the moment.

It would be highly advisable to use the last two mentioned mirrors as they are never blocked from any country and from any instance as of yet, though the first one works just as fine.
