Just yesterday, the next generation of MacBook Pros were detailed and would apparently include a Retina display and USB 3.0. Although the Pros could have a lighter form factor due to no optical drive, Apple doesn't look to be compromising internally: the laptops will use Nvidia graphics and Intel Ivy Bridge processors.

Ivy Bridge would depart from the currently-in-use AMD. The Verge reports the news directly from a source though, and while it can't yet report the specifics of the Nvidia GPU, 9to5Mac did report references to the GeForce GT650M. The 650M should offer similar performance to the GT 640M, and is built on the "Kepler" architecture.

"We've been hearing rumors about updated MacBook Pros built in the MacBook Air vein for months now; the chassis is said to be thinner and lighter ... while 9to5 Mac's report from this morning also claims the machines will have USB 3.0. We'll be tracking these rumors closely in the coming weeks; we'll let you know as more of the pieces fall into place," The Verge said on Monday, May 14.

ABC News also reported that the MacBook Pros and iMacs will be getting Retina displays, described as "jaw dropping."

In its original report, 9to5Mac said the laptop is the result of years of research in ultra-thin computing and "super-high-resolution displays." Apple released the new iPad during March 2012, which features a 10-inch Retina display.

"Sources familiar with software strings left behind in OS X Lion 10.7.4 and Mountain Lion betas say that the Retina Display MacBook Pros feature multiple Retina resolution modes, so users are able to adjust the sharpness and image sizes to their liking. Unlike Mac display settings of today, these Retina Display settings will not be marked with numbers/resolution sizes, but with descriptions such as big, small, or optimal, according to these software-based findings. The long awaited "resolution independence" is upon us," 9to5tmac said in its original report on the Retina MacBook Pros.

With WWDC less than four weeks away, it'll soon be known if Apple is ready to reveal its next-gen MacBook Pros.
