Microsoft's flagship, the Windows 10 powered Lumia 950, and Huawei's new equal, the Android-powered P9, are in for audit. Here is how the two contenders stack up.
Talking about the display, the Microsoft Lumia 950 has a 5.2" AMOLED with ClearBlack Display polarisers, QHD resolution, Glance screen, Sunlight Readability Enhancements, Gorilla Glass 3. Windows phones are widely known for their display, and the device stands up to the expectations.
On the other hand, the Huawei P9 has a 5.2" LCD with 1080p resolution, good contrast outdoors thanks to the modern IPS display, however, it doesn't quite come close to Lumia's Clear Black Display.
Under the hood, the Lumia 950 has a Snapdragon 808 chipset, powered by 3GB RAM, which is fast enough for most operations, the transitions in the device, sometimes - not often - seem to lag.
The Huawei P9 has a HiSilicon Kirin 955 chipset, 3GB RAM (4GB in some markets), and runs smoothly on Android.
The Lumia 950 has a 32GB storage which can be expanded up to 2TB with a microSD. The P9 has up to 64GB internal storage, and the microSD expands it up to 128GB.
The Microsoft phone has iris recognition technology, whereas the Huawei model has a fingerprint sensor - both of these features attempt to beef up their respective security measures.
Lumias are known for their camera. The 950 has a 20MP PureView camera with f/1.9 1/2.4" BSI sensor, PDAF, ZEISS-made optics, a dedicated camera shutter button and launch key, triple LED flash. These features make it a great camera phone.
The P9 doesn't lag behind either. It has a 'Dual' 12MP camera, both with f/2.2 BSI sensors Leica-approved optics, dual LED flash, laser auto-focus plus PDAF.
Both the phones come with a 3000mAH battery. However, the one on the Lumia is removable.
In the battle of flagships, these two are tough competitors, and the choice can be made mainly based on the operating systems they run on - Windows Phone 10 and Android Marshmallow.
