NASA'S Curiosity Rover and MAVEN have been sending pictures of the red planet since their landing. It was a historic achievement in the history of NASA, astronomical science, and all of mankind.

Now, NASA is thinking of making humans multi-planetary by colonising Mars in 2030. To achieve this feat, a lot of privately funded companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin are also building rockets to send to Mars.

While aerospace engineers are refining their rocket technology here on Earth, NASA's Reconnaissance Orbiter has sent a picture from Mars, which has a different story to tell.

The NASA image, which is circling around the Internet past a week, suggest that ESA's Schiaparelli Mars lander has exploded on impact to the surface of Mars. A joint European/Russian mission to Mars seems to have failed.

The released image shows what looks like a crash site, where the plan was for ESA's Schiaparelli, launched in March this year, to land on Mars Oct. 19.

NASA'S Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter transmitted an image of the landing site. After comparing to the earlier photos of the intended landing area, two new spots that appeared conviced the European agency that those are the remains of Schiaparelli and its parachute.

What confirms this accident is the fact that, the European Space Agency lost contact with the Schiaparelli Mars lander before its scheduled touch down.

The entire scenario can be captured in these steps.

1. ESA's Schiaparelli launched on 14 March, 2016.

2. The Mars Orbiter entered the martian atmosphere at 14:42 GMT on 19 October for its 6-minute descent to the surface.

3. The Space Agency lost contact just 6-minute before its final touch down.

4. Dropped from a height of between 2 and 4 kilometres, therefore impacting at a considerable speed, greater than 300 km/h.
