The latest NBA trade rumors hinted that the Boston Celtics are eyeing to bring in free agent J.R. Smith onto their roster before the start of the new season. Reports claimed that even though Cleveland Cavaliers are trying to re-sign their shooting guard, the Celtics are purported to have expressed their interest to strike a deal with Smith.

Celtics Blog reported that the Boston team is in the process of rebuilding their team and Smith is expected to help them achieve their goal. Reports claimed that Smith will provide the Celtics with excellent offensive and defensive skills, which will help them to put up high scores on the board.

Also, it expected that with Smith on their side, the Celtics will be able to provide a tough competition to other teams in the Eastern Conference with his enhanced three-point shooting skills with 40 percent average. Rumors hinted that Smith might aid the Celtics to become one of the top contenders for this year's NBA league title.

Furthermore, even the Celtics head coach Brad Stevens stated that excellent shooting skill is currently the team's high priority as it will help them enter the 2017 NBA playoffs, reported ESPN.

The Celtics are stated to have only $9 million of cap space left, which is touted to be not enough for the team to sign the veteran player. Sports Rageous reported that Smith recently turned down the Cavaliers' offer of $10 million annual salary, which is less than his rumored expectation of $15 million salary. This has prompted that the Celtics might not be able to woo in the 31-year-old player with such small amount.

On the other hand, the trade rumors suggested that the Cleveland Cavaliers are still keen on bringing Smith onto their roster before the start of the new NBA season. It is rumored that the Cavaliers might trade their power forward Kevin Love to create enough cap space for Smith.

However, none of the teams have officially commented on the trade rumors. Keep posted here for more updates on J.R. Smith.
