With the GoPro Hero5 just recently released, the Hero5 Session has also arrived. What is the difference between the two and which one will fit your needs?
These two cameras come from the same company and has the Hero5 name on them, but they're quite different, as per GoPro's official website.
Built And Display
For the built, the GoPro Hero5 Black gets a bit of an advantage over the GoPro Hero5 Session. It has a touch-screen display, removable battery and HDMI port. Something that the Hero5 Session doesn't have.
Both, however, has microSD slots and USB Type-C ports. The GoPro Hero5 Session doesn't have a and LCD display, but has a monochrome screen for navigation instead. The size is smaller though, making it more portable and pocketable.
Camera Sensor
The GoPro Hero5 Black gets the advantage over the camera sensor as it has a bigger one. It can capture images at wide-angle on 12-megapixel resolutions and with reduced image distortion.
This doesn't necessarily mean that the GoPro Hero5 Session is bad. In fact, it is almost just as good with only a bit of reduced image resolution size of 10-megapixel. Everything else is pretty much the same.
Video Capturing Capability
Both cameras are highly capable of capturing video footage. Both the Hero5 Black and Hero5 Session can capture up to 4K at 30 frames per second. Both can also capture 1440p, 1080p, 960p and 720p resolutions with up to 90 frames per second on the Hero5 Black and 90 on the Hero5 Session along with image rotation features.
Audio Quality
Both cameras has 3.55 mm stereo mics and up to 48 kHz audio and with auto gain control.
Price
The Hero5 Black is priced at $399.99, while the Hero5 Session is $299.99. For those looking for a more budget-friendly alternative without sacrificing the brand name and the quality of videos, the Hero5 Session is a good option. Otherwise, the Hero5 will always be the best option to boot.
