The three-year-old Canon 7D Mark II camera is finally getting its much needed update with modern functions and general stability improvement.

Canon is bringing an update to its former flagship DSLRs, namely the EOS 7D Mark II and the EOS-1DX. This update will include a number of improvements and news features.

The Canon 7D Mark II will now have support for W-E1Wi-Fi Adapter that will add the Wi-Fi capability to the camera. The W-E1 Wi-Fi adapter is an SD-Card shaped accessory that fits into the Canon 7D Mark II's memory card slot. Users only need to update their firmware to the latest V1.1.0 that was announced a couple of days ago.

On top of this, Canon will also bring some changes and additional settings for users to easily toggle between automatic storage of the lens when extended, specifically when gear-driven STM lens are connected. These are for lenses like EF 40mm f/2.8 STM, EF 50mm f/1.8 STM or other similar STM lenses.

The firmware update can be downloaded right here.

Users simply need to download the "EOS Digital Solution Disk Software 29.1A for Windows (For users who cannot use the bundled CD)," which is only 180.37 MB. Once installed, this will be used to update the Canon EOS 7D Mark II's firmware to the latest version.

Aside from the minor performance updates and the added Wi-Fi functionality, the Canon 7D Mark II still performs almost the same as it was before prior to the new firmware getting released. It is still a good purchase given the specs it dons and the price it goes with, especially with newer Canon DSLR coming out.

For those who like to further take advantage of what the Canon 7D Mark II has to offer, especially for videos, getting a custom firmware like Magic Lantern is the best next step to getting the most juice out of the powerhouse camera Canon 7D Mark II.
