The "Uncharted" movie is no stranger to delays, having been in development for eight years. With Sony announcing yet another delay for the title, fans wonder if they even want an "Uncharted" movie in the first place.
The "Uncharted" movie was first announced in 2008, when producer Avi Arad ("Iron-Man," "Spider-Man") started working on the film for Columbia Pictures, a subsidiary of Sony Pictures, according to Forbes.
A slew of "Uncharted" games were released afterwards: "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves" and "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception" for the PS3, "Uncharted: Golden Abyss" on the PlayStation Vita, mobile game "Uncharted: Fortune Hunter" and the critically acclaimed "Uncharted 4" for the PS4.
Nathan Drake may have has a successful run in the games, but his heroics are yet to be relived on the big screen. Unfortunately, the movie is still stuck in development hell, along with the film adaptation of Naughty Dog's other highly rated game "The Last of Us."
Even Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann was suprised why the movie is taking so long. "The "Uncharted" film has been in development now for I think nine years so we've learned these things happen at their own time, very slowly." the creative director said during an interview with 89.3 KPCC's The Frame.
Due to the long delay, the fans have lost all hype and excitement about the movie. Even Nathan Drake's voice and motion capture actor Nolan North thinks that fans don't even want an "Uncharted " movie at all.
"My opinion on movie from what I've heard from fans is they don't want an Uncharted movie, no matter who's the star," North told GamingNewsOfficial in an interview last year. "Maybe because it is such a cinematic experience in itself. I don't know if it is financially feasible for the studios to make this film anymore."
North also pointed out that other video game to movie adaptations, like Square Enix's "Hitman," has not done very well, which is a very well-known stigma in the industry.
