Motorola has announced that it is going to shut down its cloud storage services that have been so far available through the popular Zumo Drive name. The move comes as Motorola is advancing plans to launch an enhanced cloud storage service known as MotoCast.

The report published by ThinkDigit suggests that the new Motorola cloud service is highly likely to provide instant and seamless device-to-device as well as device-to-PC access for users using smartphones, PCs and tablets.

According to the report, MotoCast will also enable users to stream their own music audio and video files.

Motorola users running the Zumo Drive have been enjoying a variety of platforms, which include Android, iOS,Windows and open source Linux. Zumo offers 2GB of freely accessible and usable cloud storage. Several published reports indicate that Motorola has already started sending notifications to its users pertaining to the closure of Zumo Drive services. Users of the services have been asked by Motorola to make a back-up of their data in preparation for shut down of Zumo Drive scheduled for next month. Users keen to get hands-on with the new cloud storage innovation, MotoCast just have to visit the dedicated website www.mymotocast.com and download the application suitable for the devices.

Motorola is not the only company to shut down its existing cloud storage service. Earlier, HTC also announced that it is shutting down its cloud storage service for HTC Sense. The company has warned users to transfer and store up their data somewhere stating that any data in their cloud storage will be deleted when the service will be shut down on April 30. Talking about the move, HTC had stated that the HTC Sense is undergoing renovation. "Until the new services are ready, features previously available on HTCSense.com will be shutting down," reads the notification post on HTC Sense's website. HTC has nonetheless promised to keep the users of its HTC Sense extension in the loop about the renovations and the launch of the new optimized cloud storage service.

As for Zumo, Motorola has announced that Zumo Drive cloud storage service will no longer be available to the users from June 1. Users have been notified to back up their content currently stored in the storage facility as all content will be securely deleted together with all account records at the scheduled shut down.

This move is unfortunate because Zumo drive has been one of the best performing cloud based storage services available across the wide spectrum of smartphones and tablets.
