The home screen is the primary interface on your iPhone, and with iOS 18, it's easier than ever to add widgets. You can now bring your favorite apps and widgets to the front without having to sift through multiple steps.

  1. Tap and Hold an App Icon – Tap and hold on an app icon until a menu appears.
  2. Choose a Widget Size – Depending on your app, you will be presented with various size options of widgets. For example:
  3. The Weather app allows you to choose between its app icon, a smaller tile, a larger, rectangular tile, and an all-screen widget.
  4. Some apps, such as Contacts, have few or no options with regards to size
  5. Position the Widget – Once you tap the size you wish, the widget pops out of your home screen in real time.

Note: Not all applications have widgets. For example, applications like Messages don't have the option to include widgets.

Earlier, for adding a widget, the plus (+) icon needed to be tapped. This has changed with iOS 18, and you can now add a widget right from the home screen, no extra steps are needed for it.

How to Change Widget Size on Home Screen

Resizing widgets has never been easier. In older iOS versions, you had to delete a widget and re-select the correct size if it didn't fit. iOS 18 removes this hassle, letting you adjust widget sizes without starting over.

  1. Long-Press on the Widget – Press and hold the widget you want to resize.
  2. Choose New Size – Choose the new size from the list given. The widget will refresh immediately.
  3. Resizing a widget can have an effect on how your applications are presented on your home screen. You may need to rearrange things later since there is not yet an ability to pin application placement to the screen.

Adding Widgets to Your Lock Screen

iOS 18 is also enhancing your lock screen with widget options, meaning you can now access really important information right from there without having to unlock the device. You can have it customized with useful things like weather, calendar events, and even battery levels.

  1. Touch and hold your lock screen until the Customize button comes up.
  2. Touch and hold on to the Customize button and tap on the Lock Screen.
  3. Add Widgets Tap Add Widgets then select some, such as Temperature, Air Quality, or calendar events.
  4. Once you have added all of your widgets tap Done.

With this feature now your lock screen will not just become a static picture of important updates, it can even become a live dashboard in terms of important news and information.

Widgets Inside Today View

Another area where you can add widgets in iOS 18 is Today View, easily accessed by swiping to the right. It's a quick view of your information and keeps your main screens clean and organized.

Steps to Add Widgets to Today View:

  1. Swipe Right – From either the home screen or lock screen, swipe right to open Today View.
  2. Hold and Tap Add – Long-press a widget or empty area until the apps starts shaking, then tap the Add button from the top left (gray plus icon).
  3. Widget and Size Choose – Scroll through to find your wanted widget, then select from three options.
  4. Confirm Your Choice – Then tap Add Widget and Done on the Setup.
  5. Using Today View is a clean way to display many widgets on your Android device without overcrowding the home screen.
