Samsung will launch its 55-inch OLED TV at the IFA convention this August, which focuses on the European market over the U.S. The TV features an ultra-slim design along with a high resolution display.
The TV was first revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) during January this year. It boasts narrow bezels, a super-slim depth panel, vivid colors and a high contrast ratio.
There has been no price or release date confirmation, with Samsung saying 2012 is the window. LG's version of the TV is launching at $7,900, which the company said was the largest and thinnest screen of its size when revealed at CES, coming in at 4mm thin and 7.5 pounds, so that should serve as a guideline.
At IFA, Samsung will also unveil its premium range of TVs, which will be "more premium" than the OLED TV. The company hasn't said how, but it's unlikely they will improve in terms of specs, instead improving functionality.
The TVs will support Samsung's AllShare service, along with support for social networks, which brings cloud services to the sets. The TVs will come with 5GB of free storage for uploading photos, audio and video, while allowing remote access and streaming playback on other devices. The OLED TV has Voice Control, Motion Control and Face Recognition for using media.
The screen is made from a single piece of glass, with each pixel having its own RGB sub-pixels. The TV is said to be over 1000 times faster than LED sets, and Super OLED sets use less power than LCD equivalents.
The TV also has 3D functionality and a dual core processor, making the TV sound more like a games console than a TV. It also includes 1400 Smart TV apps which offer streaming through Netflix, Hulu and other on-demand services to services such as weather and games.
Later in 2012 there will be a remote login system, which allows remote access to all Samsung devices through a single account. The specifications of the system will be detailed at IFA 2012 in August.
