Apple might scrap the Air series. Reports claimed that the US tech giant will focus more on the MacBook Pro laptop in order to update its specs and redesign it completely.
Apple Insider reported that the the MacBook Air hasn't been updated for years, which has further prompted the rumors that Apple will discontinue the series rather than upgrading it this year. Another reason behind this might be because of the higher sales of the MacBook Pro laptops compared to the Air devices.
Meanwhile, it is rumored that the new MacBook Pro will be launched in the fourth quarter this year after the release of other Apple devices, the iPhone 7 and iPad Mini 5.
As far as the specs of the MacBook Pro 2016 are concerned, it is expected that the laptop will sport a sleeker and lighter design compared to its predecessors. The Bit Bag reported that the new device might also feature 5K Thunderbolt Display along with an integrated GPU. It will also feature an OLED touch bar, which is rumored to replace the row of function keys.
It is also stated that the MacBook Pro 2016 will sport a USB Type-C port and Touch ID integration added security measures. Reports claimed that the new MacBook is expected to consist of an Apple Pencil enabled Trackpad. It is stated that the next-gen Pencil will be called as the Stylus with Inertial Sensor.
"Inertial sensor input may be gathered when operating the stylus in one or more inertial sensor input modes such as an air mouse mode, a rotational controller mode, a joystick mode, and/or other inertial sensor input modes," stated the patent information, as reported by Alphr.
Should Apple decide to launch the new version, it is expected to consist of Intel Skylake processor coupled with 8GB RAM. On the other hand, there are reports that the new MacBook Pro 2016 will have an improved battery life of more than 10 hours.
