Android lovers can now experience the power of Android right on their wrists. This development is thanks to the launch of the SmartWatch by Sony. Sony Mobile Communications recently announced the release of its novel device, a new SmartWatch which comes as a wearable device.

Sony said in a press release that the device taps the power of Android through its capacity to send timely and personalized information from a smartphone right to the wrist. According to the release, the device works with vibration and screen alerts for key notifications on events such as an incoming call. The gadget also affords users the possibility to read texts and emails while they can also receive FaceBook and Twitter updates all on their wrists.

The Sony SmartWatch operates with Bluetooth connectivity to link with Android smartphone extending the possibility for the users to control key features without taking their smartphones out of their pockets or bags. "With just a tap, touch, and swipe, SmartWatch turns from a watch displaying the time to a remote information center for your Android smartphone," the release said.

The SmartWatch will enjoy a growing additional apps base via Google Play, previously known as Android Market. Users can find apps for social updates, music, workouts and various apps that have been tailored for the 1.3-inch OLED touch screen. The device users can also download and use the existing apps, though Android developers have the lee way to create new optimized apps specifically for the SmartWatch. The device is compatible with Android smartphones running on the 2.1 firmware and above.

The Sony SmartWatch is available for a retail price of $150. Android users that do not like to continuously pull their smartphones from their bags or pockets will find the timepiece quite handy. The watch has a rubber strap available in different colors such as pink, blue, mint and white. The standard color for the strap is black while other colors can be purchased separately. Atop of the strap is the SmartWatch's OLED touch-screen with display that spans 1.3 inches.

"SmartWatch is the first of many Smart Extras that seamlessly connect and expand the smartphone's reach and user experience," said Paul Hamnet, who is the President and Head of Customer Unit, North America, Sony Mobile Communications. The executive also stated that the device is designed to shift the user experience from single screen displays to more rich user experience as the SmartWatch presents live content, updates as well as entertainment on the go.
