The Russian security firm - Dr. Web discovered the much talked Flashback malware. A Botnet on Mac was something unexpected. According to the Russian security firm, Flashback has infected more than 600,000 Mac computers worldwide out of which more than 50% are located in U.S. alone. The security firm sent all the data it had about its finding to Apple and the company is waiting for any mail from Apple where the tech giant would appreciate Dr. Web for digging information about the new malware. But instead of a thank you, it seems Apple suspects Dr. Web to be involved in Flashback infections.
According to the latest reports, Apple suspects Dr. Web to be involved in the malware infections. Dr. Web CEO Boris Sharov says that he found out on Monday that Apple has requested its domain registrar Reggi.ru to shut down one of Dr. Web's domain. Apple believes that the security firm's domain is acting as a "command and control" server for hundreds of Flashback infected Mac computers. Dr. Web's CEO Boris Sharov calls it as "honest mistake" from Apple.
"They told the registrar this [domain] is involved in a malicious scheme. Which would be true if we weren't the ones controlling it and not doing any harm to users. This seems to mean that Apple is not considering our work as a help. It's just annoying them." said Boris Sharov in a statement to Forbes.
Apple, going low on diplomatic side, showed off gratitude to the discoverer of Flashback Trojan by trying to shut down one of its server. But some people believe in another way. Dr. Web has been in action since past 20 years but we have not heard much about the Moscow-based security firm until the Flashback discovery. There is a common saying that anti-virus firms are only profitable when there is a virus infection in PC's worldwide.
Now the question raises that whether the Russian security firm is responsible for Flashback Trojan or it is just Apple showing attitude?
