It might be wishful thinking for some, but there is a chance that the "X-Force" will be joining the superhero cast of "Deadpool 2."
This possibility was teased by no other than Rob Liefeld who seems to be dousing fuel on the expectations of Marvel fans by bringing the group to the forefront at this year's San Diego Comic-Con.
Movie Pilot recalled that Liefeld left "Deadpool" sketches across the venue of last year's Comic Con, a move that was well received by fanboys who attended the conference.
The comic book artist-author plans to repeat the same stunt in this year's Comic Con, but this time, his designs would not only feature the "merc with a mouth" but would also include "Cable," "Domino," "Shatterstar" and "Stryfe."
It, therefore, wouldn't take a stretch of the imagination to presume that the scarlet-uniformed assassin would be joining forces with Cable and his other mutant cast members in "Deadpool 2."
On the other hand, "X-Men: Apocalypse" director Bryan Singer also discussed the prospect of "Deadpool" joining the "X-Men" cinematic universe.
"If you take a character as irreverent and meta as Deadpool and connect him to something as grounded and serious as X-Men, you have to do it carefully and gently," Singer said.
"When you drop them all in together it can be a disaster. That has to be done delicately, but there's plenty of room to do it," he added.
In the meantime, Liefeld isn't the only one hinting that a superhero team would be part of the "Deadpool 2" cast.
The movie's main star, Ryan Reynolds, posted a photo on his Instagram account two weeks ago showing "Deadpool's" hand with a pen, as he adds the letter X to the signage of a men's CR, according to We Got This Covered.
Although the "Deadpool 2" poster might be considered unofficial, as 20th Century Fox doesn't plan to start production until early next year, fans have interpreted this as a sign that the superhero group might indeed join the cast of the R-Rated superhero film.
