Despite the reports that Apple's orders for A9 chips for iPhone 6s were split between Samsung and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), there is news that the TSMC will be the sole supplier for A11 Chips for next year's iPhone 8.

Additionally, Apple will reportedly be discontinuing its contract with Samsung for A10 and A11 chips in the iPhone 8.

According to a report by Chinese Economic Times, which was translated by Digitimes, TSMC will be the exclusive manufacturer of Apple's next - generation A11 processor, which will be built on a 10nm FinFET process.

Thus, it seems that TSMC has an advantage over its Korean competitors, which probably caused them to win over Apple's contracts.

Notably, in a Benchmark test, it has been found out that models with TSMC chips ran cooler and offered better battery life compared to those with Samsung chip. Although Apple described the differences as very small, it might have played a key role in choosing the supplier, reported 9to5Mac.

Meanwhile, it was rumored back in May that TSMC has finalized the initial design of the A11 chip to be used for the next generation iPhone. Additionally, with all the reports suggesting that the design of the iPhone 7 will be similar to the iPhone 6, Apple might be planning to make the launch more memorable for a 10th anniversary model launch next year.

For the iPhone 8, there might be a radical change in design and features. The iPhone 8 is rumored to be equipped with a Home button embedded in the display, allowing much smaller bevels, and come with an all glass casing and AMOLED screen.

It is yet to be seen what features will be unveiled in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8.
