The season 4 of "Sherlock" series featuring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman might not be the last. The writer and creator of the television drama series, Steven Moffat, hinted that the series might continue depending on the lead actors' availability.

"That's why I think it's unlikely that we've completely finished it," said Moffat, as reported by Collider. "There would be nothing strange in stopping for a while. It could go on forever, coming back now and again."

The creator of the series said that the show can be put on hold for the time being as the main artists are busy with their film projects. E Online reported that Cumberbatch and Freeman are both busy filming Marvel Universe's upcoming movies "Doctor Strange" and "Black Panther."

However, the writer also teased that "Sherlock" season 4 might very well mark the end of the series. He said that if both Cumberbatch and Martin decide to leave after the next season, then that would mean the end of the show. "I don't know how long we can keep it going," said Moffat, as reported by Telegraph. "I'm personally willing but I'm hardly the main draw."

Meanwhile, reports claimed that the season 4 of the drama series will consist of three episodes instead of the regular four. According to the statement made by PBS and Masterpiece, the main antagonist of the series, Professor Moriarty, might also make a comeback in the season 4. The creator of the show hinted that the upcoming season will feature terror and tragedy in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson.

Also, there are reports that the upcoming season of "Sherlock" will focus on Watson and Mary's parenthood.

In addition, the Christmas Special TV movie "Sherlock: The Abominable Bride" aired last year has recently been nominated for the Emmy Awards in the categories Outstanding TV Movie, cinematography, visual effects, sound mixing, and sound editing.
