Released back on March 16 2012, Mass effect 3 was downloaded over 390,000 times within first 24 hours of its release. But within few hours of addictive gameplay, as gamers reached the ending of Mass Effect 3, the game developer started sensing a criticism surrounding BioWare - an EA subsidiary. Mass Effect fans expressed their dislike for the ending of the game. And after weeks of receiving heavy flak, the company has finally announced that it would release the new ending of Mass Effect 3 via an 'Extended Cut,' this summer.

Initially, Mass Effect 3 was meant to be the last game in the Mass Effect trilogy. But gamers have been unhappy about the ending of the game. BioWare was surrounded by users' complaint demanding change in the game's ending. A viral campaign was launched on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. As a result, Mass Effect makers decided to roll out an Extended Cut of Mass Effect 3 that will mainly be focused around the game's finishing storyline. However, it is still unclear that whether the new game will serve as an assimilated part of the existing game or it will be a separate version.

"Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans, and we are responding. With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team's artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe," said Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder and general manager of BioWare, in a statement.

Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut will be available as a free download. But in order to download it, users must pre-own the original version of Mass Effect 3 and must have an account at EA online or Sony Playstation Network or Xbox Live Marketplace. Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut will be released this summer on PC, Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) platforms.

"We have reprioritized our post-launch development efforts to provide the fans who want more closure with even more context and clarity to the ending of the game, in a way that will feel more personalized for each player," said Casey Hudson, Mass Effect's executive producer, in a statement.
