With Kevin Durant lost to the Golden State Warriors, there are rumors that the Oklahoma City Thunder might trade their point guard Russell Westbrook.
Sports Illustrated reported that another reason Thunder might think of trading Russell this season as he would be all set to hit the NBA free agency arena next year. This would put Oklahoma City's team at the risk of losing one of their best players without anything in return, almost similar to what happened this year considering Durant's case.
Various NBA trade rumors hinted that the Oklahoma City Thunder might look out for some key players to form a core team in exchange for Westbrook. HOF Magazine reported that the Los Angeles Lakers is one of the teams that might think of entering a trade deal with Thunder this season. The main reason behind this is that they have failed to lure in any of the top free agents.
There is even a possibility that the Lakers would trade D'Angelo Russell in order to acquire Westbrook from Oklahoma City Thunder. SB Nation reported that the Lakers might have to offer more players to the Thunder team like Brandon Ingram, Nick Young, and Lou Williams in exchange for their star player.
Apart from the Lakers, the other teams who are interested in acquiring Westbrook this season are the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, and the Minnesota Timberwolves. Reports suggested that the Bulls might exchange youngsters like Doug McDermont, Nikola Mirotic, and Bobby Portis for Thunder's Westbrook. On the other hand, the Timberwolves are expected to give up few talented players like Andrew Wiggins, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Zach Lavine just to have Russell on their side.
Even though many teams are rumored to have lined up for the trade, there is no official report as of now whether the Oklahoma City Thunder would trade Russell Westbrook or not.
