"Outlander" Seasons 1 and 2 have been successful when it comes to engaging the viewers to their world. But it looks like there will be more exciting twists and turns once Season 3 is out on small screens. Executive producer Ronald D. Moore provided hints about what could happen in "Outlander" Season 3.
First, the exec told The Hollywood Reporter that the death of Duke of Sandringham was indeed unexpected. However, he admits that it was the original writer Diana Gabaldon who wrote the season 2 finale episode.
Moore soon confessed that they all have the liberty to choose where the story would go whether it will follow the original plot from the novel or go the other way. Below is his statement about the character's death:
"In the book, the death of the duke happened off camera. Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) left them and came back with just the head in the bag and presented it to Claire (Caitriona Balfe)," he said. "We just thought that, for TV, that wasn't going to be dramatically satisfying. You wanted to see it happen," Moore added.
Also, the actor who played as the Duke, Simon Callow, did not expect the gruesome ending. "I thought I knew that he was going to die at the battle of Culloden, but I certainly didn't know he was going to die the way he did die. It's a very satisfactory way to die," he told TVLine.
And since the unexpected turn of event happened in the series, it is plausible to assume that the novel will not be enough to know what lies ahead of "Outlander" Season 3. Meanwhile, TV Guide reported that the show is renewed for two more seasons, so the excitement continues.
The premiere date for "Outlander" Season 3 is yet to be announced soon.
