The Verizon strike has been getting more and more intense and the Congress members allegedly say that it should be put to a stop. Meanwhile, children of the picketing employees are reportedly joining their relatives on strike as well.

May 20 marks the fifth week of the protest and more than 40,000 employees left their job to support the cause, reported Patch. However, 88 members of the Congress have reportedly issued a plea to put an end to the massive strike.

The Congress members expressed their concern about both sides, as written in the official statement. Even though there is a negotiation ongoing between Verizon owners and labor unions, they still would want the employees to halt the protest for good.

"We are concerned that proposed changes in the new contract could continue that downward spiral. While we are heartened by Verizon's announced intention to offer FiOS broadband service in additional cities, such as Boston, many communities across the country are still waiting," as quoted from the website

"We hope that Verizon will be committed to hiring and retaining the skilled staff necessary to complete the buildout of its FiOS broadband service in a timely manner in all markets." Both of the parties are yet to comment on the official statement.

Meanwhile, progressive website In These Times stated that the Verizon strike is "not just about wages, but also about power and domination over workers." They cited the opinions from different vantage points.

Additionally, organizational website Common Dreams also reported recently that some of the worker's children are joining in the protest. The young people from Indianapolis to Philadelphia are participating in the strike to reportedly create a deeper impact to Verizon.

Called as The Family Day protests, workers are still demanding for fair wage and fighting the struggle against "corporate greed."

"Despite $1.5 billion in monthly profits and a record $39 billion in profits over the last three years, Verizon is trying to force concessions that would devastate families and kill good jobs," Communications Workers of America stated.

Story developing.
