The Fort McMurray wildfire in Alberta province, Canada has already forced more than 80,000 people to flee the city and torched more than 1,600 homes and buildings, according to the local officials.

The Alberta government said Thursday that more than 1,110 firefighters, 145 helicopters, 138 pieces of heavy equipment and 22 air tankers were fighting a total of 49 wildfires, with seven considered out of control.

"It is a possibility that we may lose a large portion of the town," Reuters cited Scott Long, an official with Alberta's emergency management agency as saying.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Thursday, it is the largest fire evacuation in Alberta's history, "Homes have been destroyed. Neighborhoods have gone up in flames. The footage we've seen of cars racing down highways while fire races on all sides is nothing short of terrifying."

"We will make it through this most difficult time together," said Trudeau.

As per the NBCNews, he told Canada House of Commons that the government will match all donations to the Red Cross relief effort for the fire refugees.

NASA has released several satellite pictures of the wildfire, as the following:

At 12:34 p.m. local time on May 3, 2016, the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on the Landsat 8 satellite acquired this false-color image of the fire. The image combines shortwave infrared, near infrared, and green light (OLI bands 7-5-3). Near- and short-wave infrared help penetrate clouds and smoke to reveal the hot spots associated with active fires, which appear red. Smoke appears white and burned areas appear brown. When this image was acquired, the fire was burning southwest of downtown Fort McMurray.
