Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg did not just surprise the world with his announcement of his daughter's Max birth, but also his plan to donate 99% of his social network stock. The said move is currently worth about $45 billion USD.

On the note posted regarding the issue, it was stated that Zuckerberg will gift or otherwise direct substantially all of his Facebook stock shares or the net after tax proceeds from the sales of those shares. This is to help the mission to advance human potential and promote equality by means of philanthropy, public advocacy and other activities for the public good.

It was also revealed that the Facebook CEO has established a new organization which is the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, LLC, where he will control the voting and disposition of any shares that is within the said entity. It was also stated that Zuckerberg plans to sell or gift about $1 billion USD of the social media's stock each year for the coming three years. He also intends to maintain his majority voting position in Facebook's stock for the foreseeable future.

To be clear, the said organization is a limited liability company not a non-profit organization. The profits that this LLC makes from its investments will be used for funding additional work to further the mission. Facebook's big boss and his wife will still choose where those money goes to, but so far according to their announcement, the initial focus will be on personalized learning, curing diseases, connecting people and building strong communities.

Priscilla Chan, Zuckerberg's wife said in a video that they need to make sure that there are investments in programs that will be able to ensure that the future will not be like today but will be better. The said video is also where the couple has introduced the upcoming organization.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Zuckerberg wrote that there are two reasons they have decided to give away their fortunes this early in their lives. One is because there is a lot to learn and giving is one which takes practice to do effectively. So since they wanted to be good at it in ten to fifteen years, they should start now.

The second reason is because they hope that any good that they do will build in the future. He further stated that if we can help children get better education now, then they will grow up and can help others too in the time when we have waited to get started on helping.

Facebook's big boss has been known for his generous donations to charities in the past since he has established the social networking site.
