Have you checked your Facebook inbox recently, noticed how there is an "Inbox" and "Other" choices when you opened your messages page? If you did and just ignored the "Other" option chances are you've missed messages you never thought you had. These messages are the ones sent by people you might know but aren't friends with in Facebook or by an acquaintance inviting you to an event or an important message from a possible business partner and so on.

Earlier this week, Facebook has announced that they will scrap it (the "Other" option I mean), off to be reinvented or renamed as Facebook's latest feature or development which is the "Message Requests". This time, the messages you never thought you had will be more noticeable and people will be able to initiate a conversation to people they might know but aren't friends yet in Facebook. Don't despair though, as Facebook promises that this one which is a lot more improve and cooler than its predecessor has a feature where the messages you received can be controlled by you and yourself alone.

Though strangers or your "friends" friend will be able to send you a message, you get to decide whether they will be able to send you a message for the second time in the future. David Marcus, VP of Facebook's messaging services said that with the new messaging system enables messages sent to you by your friends in Facebook or contacts in your phone that has been synced, or someone you have an existing open thread to be sent or saved to your inbox. Others that doesn't fall into the category will now be available through the "Message Request" feature except for the spam messages of course, which he promises that Facebook will continue to battle.

Facebook also assures the public that they will make sure that every user is aware of the changes happening to their messaging services. The changes, though better in storing messages may lack a bit on the privacy side. Marcus has explained though that the concern for a better inbox quality is more important now but isn't completely lax in security. This "Message Request" feature grants users to reach out or message anyone they want and remain to be reachable only by those they would like to interact with.
