Facebook's quest to provide the ultimate personalized experience for its users has added and expanded another feature for their smartphone users. Facebook has made news and weather alerts available to users using their smartphones.

Up until now, Facebook's alerts to smartphone users only include alerts for posts made by friends, upcoming events and birthdays. Facebook's alerts will now include community news and events, storm warning and other weather information; plus suggestions for television programs and/or nearby movies within the user's area.

According to Facebook product manager Keith Peiris, they have been receiving feedback on how users wanted to add more important information that they can all see easily in one place. The result of which is this expanded alerts for smartphone users.

Peiris also added that members will now be able to personalize alerts to things happening around the user's community, like local events and news that is popular in the city that the user currently lives in. The changes is said to start rolling out gradually for Android and iOS device, users however are given the choice to opt-in or not to these notifications.

Users will not have to worry as their current notification settings will not be changed and it can be adjusted anytime the user wants to. The users can just check their settings and select through the cards of Facebook regarding which alerts they would like to see. Peiris also said that Facebook will continue to improve and listen to feedbacks on information their users will find useful and may periodically add more cards to choose from in the future.

It is certain that Facebook is on its way to becoming bigger and more helpful in the future, the acceptance though of this features are still in the hands of the users. Whether they will succeed on providing that ultimate personalized experience for each user is left for debates. For now try and see if you will be one of those impressed with the recent improvements.
