Global social media site, Facebook, still lacks cultural and racial variations despite massive hiring campaigns. According to a report written by Tech Crunch.com, Asian and white male employees still rule in Facebook. In the company's updated demographic profile, the lack of diversity persists despite the fact that Facebook's hired about 2,897 employees this year.
The social media site also faces absence of diversity in terms of workforce gender. The same article from Tech Crunch reported that the female workforce percentage employed in the social media company rose only from 47 to 52 percent. Facebook, however, did not divulge the exact figures for public scrutiny.
Facebook's management did admit the visible flaws seen within the company. The social media site's management released a statement that reads:
"Cognitive diversity, or diversity of thought, matters because we are building a platform that currently serves 1.4 billion people around the world. It's vital for us to have a broad range of perspectives, including people of different genders, races, ages, sexual orientations, characteristics and points of view. Having a diverse workforce is not only the right thing to do - it's the smart thing to do for our business."
Cnet.com reported 10,000 workers all over the world currently make up Facebook's workforce. The issues of diversity still stand, though, despite having multiple workers across the globe.
Facebook's management assured the public that its human resources and administrative team members are working hard at hiring a diverse group of workers. The company invests efforts into achieving its diverse staffing solutions to meet public expectations.
Meanwhile, Apple CEO, Tim Cook, echoes the same sentiment by saying, "cultural diversity is the key to business success." It looks like Facebook's human resources team may just learn a thing or two from Cook! The public will just have to wait and see if the social media company's workforce expands beyond what it is today.
