Oscar-Winning Cinematographer Exhibits iPhone and Tilta Khronos Ecosystem Power
Austin JayTilta, a leading photography and cinematography gear company, joined forces with Claudio Miranda, ASC, an Academy Award-winning Director of Photography, to craft "The X Gift."
This holiday-themed short film was exclusively shot using the iPhone 15 Pro.
The film "X" embodies the spirit of Christmas, symbolizing surprise and endless opportunities. It aims to convey that this exceptional gift is a beacon of inspiration for people of all ages and professions. It encourages individuals to capture cinematic moments with loved ones, embracing life's beauty wherever they are.
Tilta clarifies that beyond showcasing a product, the film is an invitation to ignite creativity, spread joy, and foster unity during the festive season.
Collaborating with Miranda, renowned for his work on films like "Life of Pi" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," Tilta also engaged production designer Yong Ok Lee, recognized for her contributions to projects like "Minari" and "The Farewell."
The technology played a pivotal role throughout the shoot, enabling seamless integration of iPhones into high-level cinematic workflows, rivaling dedicated cameras in quality.
The iPhones boast cinema-oriented features like ProRes RAW recording to attached SSDs, noted by Oscar-winning DP Claudio Miranda. He highlighted Blackmagic's Camera App for its essential control.
The behind-the-scenes footage, shot by Gene Nagata, known as Potato Jet on YouTube, showcased the impressive capabilities of the latest iPhone models.
Nagata expressed disbelief at the footage's quality, highlighting the ProRes and Log features and redefining smartphone filmmaking. Smartphone imaging tech's strides, bolstered by apps and accessories, have democratized professional filmmaking, rendering it more accessible than ever.
The smartphones' capacities challenge traditional camera setups, reshaping perceptions about their filmmaking potential.
Available in gray/titanium and green, cages sport mounting points, cold shoe mounts, NATO rails, and a unique filter system. Prices remain undisclosed, but releases are slated by January's end. For iPhone filmmakers, these accessories suggest expanded capabilities.

Tilta was founded in 2010 and initially offered DSLR accessory kits. Over time, the company has expanded to become a full-service equipment supplier for cinematography.
Tilta evolved from a manufacturer to an integrated solution provider by adding wireless lens control, camera cages, gimbal support systems, and other products to its repertory.
With its main office in Shenzhen, China's Silicon Valley, Tilta quickly spread worldwide, becoming well-known in North America, especially Hollywood.
Collaborations with the ASC Clubhouse offered Tilta invaluable insights into the inner workings of high-end US productions, aiding in refining their products to meet the demands of the industry. Working closely with renowned cinematographers globally, Tilta continuously refines its offerings, aiming to propel the industry forward.
Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic in 2020, Tilta persisted, unveiling products like the Hydra Alien car mounting system and specialized kits for RED Komodo and DJI RS 2. These innovations allowed filmmakers to achieve professional-grade visuals with smaller crews, adapting to the changing landscape of production limitations.
Tilta's commitment to innovation and quality remains unwavering, reflected in its constant pursuit of improvement, innovative design, and the democratization of high-end filmmaking tools for a broader spectrum of creators.
