Target Sends Back iPhone SE Stock, Is Apple Preparing A 128GB Model For March Press Event? [Rumor]
Vittorio HernandezIn late February, Apple was rumored to launch an iPad Pro lineup, iPhone SE, red iPhone 7 and red iPhone 7 Plus. But ahead of any delivery of new phones, Target ordered on Wednesday that a number of current iPhone SE models be returned to Apple.
8 Phones
The iPhone SE units that Target ordered to be sent back to Apple were six unlocked 16GB and 64GB models in Space Gray, Rose Gold, Silver and Gold colors, and two Sprint models, MacRumors reports. However, it says not all Target stores got the order to send back to Apple iPhone SE stocks.
TechnoBuffalo raises the question if the order to return stocks of the model is an indicator that a new model of iPhone SE is coming. But it concedes that a second-generation iPhone SE is not expected and speculates Target could just be seeking extra space on its shelves for other phones, not just from Apple but also other manufacturers.
But MacRumors notes weak sales of some models could be the reason behind the return of the stock amid rumors that Apple would announce at a March event a 128GB model, although there are no leaks about the specs of a second-gen iPhone SE. Apple launched the original model with beginning price of $399 in March 2016.
Doubling Storage
The tech website raises the possibility that Apple could just sell iPhone SE units with capacities of 32GB and 128GB. It would double the storage space of the current 16GB and 64GB models without a need for a full refresh.
The first-gen iPhone SE features a 4-inch LED-backlit widescreen Multi-Touch Retina display which has a 1,136 x 640 pixel resolution at 326 ppi and a 800:1 contrast ratio. It runs on an A9 chip with 64-bit architecture and has a 12MP camera.
