Nokia 6 Is Here But It’s China-Exclusive, Find Out Why
Jack PetersonNokia 6 has been officially launched by HMD Global on Sunday in China. The new mobile phone promises impressive specs, which come good news to smartphone users. However, those who live outside China may need to wait longer before they can get their hands on the first Nokia-branded Android device.
Developed by HMD Global, the China-exclusive Nokia smartphone is only available for online purchase via JD.com. Given the popularity of the brand, users may wonder why the developer chose not to release the device internationally. The answer is simple, the company aims to reach the massive market of consumers in China, reportedly.
In a press release published by HMD Global, it was revealed that the company's decision reflects their goal to deliver Nokia 6 to different markets. And with China having over 552 million smartphone users in 2016, it is not a surprise that it chose to release the device in the country first and exclusively. Additionally, the smartphone users in China will reportedly increase to 593 million this year according to predictions.
HMD Global's strategy was further clarified by IHS Technology Mobile Analyst Ian Fogg in a report from Newsweek. Fogg claimed that the reason behind Nokia 6 being China-exclusive is to lower the risks for the manufacturer. "You've got to start somewhere, and introducing one model in one country is much lower risk than, say, multiple models in one country, or one model in multiple markets," Fogg explained.
Fogg meant to say that Nokia 6 may be able to reach different markets in a single country given the large network of consumers in China, which of course, would be easier and less risky. Unfortunately for those eager to get hold of the device, it may take time for the company to launch the smartphone in other countries. However, Newsweek claimed that HMD Global already promised that it will ship more Nokia-branded mobile phones to other markets in the first half of the year.
