'Borderlands 3' Update: Game A No-Show At PAX West, As Gearbox Focused On 'Battleborn?' Developer Remains Quiet
J RoseGearbox Software's highly anticipated game "Borderlands 3" was a no-show at this year's PAX West, despite the fans' requests for updates from the developers.
Fans were really hoping for some "Borderlands 3" news from Gearbox, as the developer has not mentioned the game for quite some time, despite confirming that the studio is working on it. Gearbox's Randy Pitchford himself announced on Twitter that there will be new updates on some of their franchises, including "Borderlands."
Unfortunately, the only "Borderlands" related thing to ever come out of that panel is when they talked about working on the first "Borderlands" title, along with a sketch starring Scooter and Crazy Earl.
Pitchford has teased last year that the studio is ready to work on the next "Borderlands" sequel, according to IGN.
Speaking on a PAX East panel in January 2015, Pitchford said, "We want to think about the future and we want to think about what the next 'Borderlands' is and we're going to need some help,"
"The fact is, we're not working on a new 'Borderlands' game, but we want to." Pitchford added.
Gearbox has also briefly mentioned "Borderlands 3" during a PAX East panel earlier this year, with Pitchford saying that the title is "obviously no secret."
"We don't even know if we're going to call it that. We could call it Borderlands 4 for all we know," Pitchford added.
According to Xbox One UK, however, it looks like Gearbox is too focused on one of their latest IP's "Battleborn" to even start working on "Borderlands 3."
"Battleborn" has suffered from lack of PC players since its fiercest competitor "Overwatch" came into the picture. The game enjoyed a 12,070 all-time peak on Steam immediately after launch, but is now just barely reaching 2,000 player peaks.
While "Borderlands 3" is definitely happening, fans should not hold their breath for any release dates or updates until Gearbox finally shifts its attention away from "Battleborn" and finally work on the sequel everybody is waiting for.
