Microsoft's E3 conference on Monday, June 4, began with a Halo 4 campaign demo. 343 Industries revealed the demo was around a third into the campaign, not the beginning, so the demo didn't show Chief emerging from cryo sleep.

The demo began with a live action trailer, a teaser for the pre-launch mini-series that will run before the November 6 launch. It showed the UNSC Infinity ship in a state of chaos, transitioning into gameplay as the ship is heading for a crash while flying over the Chief. Before the player took control, an orange sphere - not identified - flew over the Chief. It looked like Forerunner technology, but it's not known for sure.

Taking control of Chief, Covenant ships can be seen flying overhead as Cortana and Chief explore the jungle. Quietly moving through, a squad of Covenant - Grunts, Jackals and Elites - were spotted. Chief attacked, killing the grunts, and as the Elite charged towards Chief a beam appeared behind and disintegrated the Elite.

Moving forward, the source of the beam appeared to have gone and a UNSC marine talked over to Chief. Sounding anxious, new enemies appeared. Crawling over the trees and the ground, these orange-glowing forces were revealed to be called the Prometheans. One such force was called the Promethean Knight, which was bigger than the Crawler forces and wielded sword-esque weapons.

Chief took out the Battle Rifle, shot the Crawlers - revealing the enhanced weapon sounds - and switched to the Assault Rifle for an increased rate of fire. With the Crawlers dead, the Promethean Knight was attacked. It was protected by a flying, unnamed enemy of the same aesthetic which covered the Knight in a shield. Chucking a grenade caused it to be thrown back, so shooting the flying enemy before attacking the Knight was the way to progress.

The flying enemy moved away, revealing a new long range battle rifle weapon. Chief then chucked a frag grenade at the flying enemy, shooting it with the grenade to cause a big explosion. The demo also showed a Forerunner shotgun.

An armor ability, Promethean Vision, was finally shown which basically portrays the environment in a enhanced see-through visor mode where enemies are highlighted as red. Chief was then attacked by another Knight, before the screen went black and the demo ended.

Halo 4 launches November 6. Check out the trailer video below:
