The South Korean Company is continuously innovating and updating its flagship models LG G series for the past 3 years. Here is a quick comparison of three of its models- the LG G5 (released on April 2016), LG G4 (released on April 2015), and LG G3(released on June 2014).
Though the design and display look similar in the LG G4 and the G3 with 5.5" screens, the G5 comes with a smaller display (5.3") and little change in look and design. The resolution and IPS LCD screen remain the same in all. Still, the G5 has what the companies are calling always-on displays.
In terms of camera, LG has keep on innovating with its front and back snapper. Starting with the latest LG G5, which has a 16-megapixel rear camera, along with a secondary 8-megapixel 135-degree wide-angle sensor for a wider field of view that is said to be closer to a human eye than a regular camera. The G5 has super-fast and super-accurate autofocus whatever you point it at, aided by a bright f/1.8 aperture for low-light shooting. It also has an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.
The LG G4 has a 16 MP back camera with lesser features and a 8MP front camera. Meanwhile, the LG G3 comes with only 13 MP back and 2.1 MP selfie camera.
In the age of outdating technology, we need to improve the processor continuously to cope up the demand. LG has done similar changes with G-series smartphones. The earlier LG G3 have Snapdragon 801 chipset with quad core 2.2 GHz Krait CPU. It gets a little upgrade in LG G4 with hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor with 1.8 Ghz Cortex-A53 CPU.
The LG G5 comes with the latest quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor clocking at 2.15 GHz, and it is the most powerful among the trio.
In terms of RAM, G3 and G4 features a similar combination of 32GB internal storage and 3 GB RAM, while G5 upgrades with 4 GB RAM. The trio always comes with a dedicated microSD slot expandable up to 256 GB.
The earlier G4 and G3 have similar 3000mAh battery while the LG G5 has a slightly smaller 2800mAh capacity that is charged via USB Type-C.
G5 does offer a removable battery thanks to its modular nature, as well as the addition of other modules, such as a Hi-Fi DAC and amp. It is one of its kind.
The OS used in these three smartphones are the latest one with their respective launch years. The LG G5 comes with Android 6.0.
Summing up, LG has given a major upgrade to the LG G5 with fingerprint, Modular nature and a much better camera. The G4 was also a good phone in 2015, while the G3 wasn't much popular upon its launch.
