With the Canon 5D Mark IV already out, those looking to upgrade from the previous Mark III might be still undecided. Here are the key difference that make or break the reasons for upgrading.

Canon recently released the 5D Mark IV and it is still a great performer like those it followed. However, upgrading could be a bit tricky, especially when certain consumers have particular requirements. Some already met theirs, while some still need to move on to the next option.

Here are some key specs are based from the official Canon EOS DSLRs website.

Sensor

The Canon 5D Mark III has a 22.3 MP sensor and the Canon 5D Mark IV has an extreme advantage over it, getting a 31.7 MP resolution. This is almost 50 percent larger that its predecessor and even has some extra features like low-pass filter.

Image Processor

The image processor also got a nice face life from the former to the latter. The Canon 5D Mark IV now has a DIGIC 6 processor, which has marginally better noise handling and faster readout from the sensor. This means faster burst shots compared the Mark III.

Dual Pixel Features

The Canon 5D Mark IV also got the new Dual Pixel format. Long story short, this feature helps users capture sharper images by utilizing the Dual Pixel feature. This captures two images in the sensor and the processor provides the option for the users to lessen ghosting effects.

4K Video

Another new feature of the latest 5D Mark IV is the inclusion of 4K video capture capability. This lets users film 4K videos under 30, 25 and 24 frames per second. On top of this, the Mark IV also has the ability to 120 frames per second in full HD. This makes it possible for buttery smooth slow motion footage.

There are also other specs where the Canon 5D Mark IV outclasses the Mark III in varying levels, but given these factors, the upgrade and the price are well justified.
