Just a few days away before the official release date of Canon EOS 5D Mark IV on September 8, consumers' pockets are now ready to take a beating. Before buying the latest entry to Canon's Pro DSLR line, here are some facts to know about it.
No more rumors and speculations as Canon have finally unveiled all the necessary specs that consumers need to know about before buying the camera. Below are the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV's most notable updates.
Extremely Fast Focusing System
The Canon EOS 5D Mark IV is armed with a 61-point AF system. This is similar to the higher-end 1DX Mark II. The focus points are very effective even on f/8. This is very practical for long lens users who usually shoot wildlife and sports.
Confirmed 4K Video Recording
The Canon EOS 5D Mark IV sports a DCI 4K, which translates to "True 4K." This is a total resolution size of 4096 x 2160. Supported frame rates are 30, 25 and 24 for a more film-like feel. However, 60 fps is still not possible on 4K and it can only be used with Full HD of 1080p and below.
Wi-Fi and GPS
It now has Wi-FI with NFC as well as a GPS function. These can be used with an FTP client for faster copying through Wireless networks.
Dual Pixal Raw Feature
This feature is an improved version of the RAW capture that allows for sub-pixel adjustments for further increasing sharpness. This lets consumers get full control of the camera's built-in anti-aliasing feature.
General Image Quality and Other Features
Canon EOS 5D Mark IV retains the same maximum ISO sensitivity similar to Mark III. It goes down to 50 and up to an expanded range of 102400.
Mark IV is slightly faster than its predecessor with a 7 fps burst shot speed.
The sensor has increased greatly with Canon EOS 5D Mark IV's 30.4 MP Dual Pixel CMOS sensor. A huge leap from the former's 22.3 MP CMOS sensor.
Price
Canon EOS 5D Mark IV's price starts at $3,499 on Amazon and with optional bundles of 24-105mm for $4,599 and 24-70mm for $4,399.
These significant upgrades do set the fine line between the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and the Mark III as well as the rest of the competition and it clearly shows that Canon's latest entry for the 5D series may own the pro DSLR market for a long while.
