Google's Next Foldable, Rumored to be the 'Pixel 9 Pro Fold', Expected to Boast Flagship Specs
Austin JayAs anticipation builds for Google's upcoming Pixel 9 series, a recent leak hints at an intriguing addition: a foldable device dubbed the "Pixel 9 Pro Fold." This revelation stems from insights from a "Google insider" speaking to Android Authority, suggesting a significant expansion from the usual two-phone flagship lineup.
According to the leak, the Pixel 9 series might comprise four distinct models: the usual base phone Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the foldable one. Further details about the device's functionality and characteristics are unlikely to be provided anytime soon, but the fact that it can be made to fold reflects how Google aims to satisfy the different interests of its customers within the premium-tier devices.

The previous generation of the Pixel Fold has not performed at par with expectations. It has been reported that the Tensor G2 chipset's processor and battery performance is one of the main reasons for inefficient performance. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the hope and the device to address the unfolded screen problem.
Previously released leaks suggest the device will be packed with a Tensor G4 Chipset.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold will likely follow the same trend as the rest of the Pixel 9 lineup rather than being different in design. This will align the Fold in the Pixel 9 family. Nevertheless, even if the name takes time until launch and goes through additional modifications, Google's intention to present this foldable model as a flagship competitor instead of a rare product is made clear by this naming.
Unlike before, when Google still had the foldable devices in a separate line, the plan to integrate the foldable features into the upcoming Pixel 9 marks a different direction, away from what has been traditionally viewed as a separate type of device. The addition of Pixel 9 Pro fold to the main series will help Google streamline product releases and enable the customers' experience with a consolidated device line.
Doubts are raised about the potential for consumer confusion as a result of the extended assortment now available. As the Pixel 9 will release four variants, not only will consumers get confused about which one to buy, but the invasion of information will create an overload in mind. Yet, the naming formula, especially the incorporation of "Pro Fold," is criticized for being confusing and simply impossible to process.
So... It appears the #Google phones I've leaked in January are actually the #Pixel9Pro and which will likely be marketed as #Pixel9ProXL.

Despite these reservations, Google's strategic shift towards foldable technology reflects broader industry trends and consumer demand for innovative form factors. Google's foray into this market indicates its dedication to pushing the limits of smartphone functionality and design as rivals unveil their foldable products.
Nearing Google I/O 2024, everyone will watch as the tech giant unveils its most recent range of Pixel products. It remains to be seen if the Pixel 9 Pro Fold lives up to the predicted flagship status, but one thing is sure: Google's entry into the foldable smartphone industry will be significant.
