Facebook Announces Offline Mode for Instagram App
Charles LimInstagram is now stepping up its game to ensure its position in the social media space with the addition of a brand new offline mode feature. The company announced that it will be rolling out the offline capabilities to its app very soon, which means that users may still be able to use the app even when they don't have stable internet or data connection.
According to GSM Arena, the company officially announced the offline feature at Facebook's annual developer conference in San Jose, California. Facebook apparently wants to ensure its lead against its main competitor, Snapchat, which it has already surpassed in terms of its number of users.
The new feature will undoubtedly be welcomed by the app's millions of users, especially those in area's with poor data and internet reception. The new feature basically allows users to leave comments, like, save posts, unfollow people, and view all the content that has already been downloaded even without an internet connection.
Similar to the official Facebook app, all of the user's activities, while they were offline, will be saved and then executed in the background when their device connects back to the internet. Profiles that have previously been visited along with saved versions of the explore page will also be viewable offline.
It has to be noted that the app will likely take up a lot of temporary storage space while saving all of the offline content. Resetting the device will also mean that the cached data may be erased, and the app may not be able to display the appropriate content if it finds itself without an internet connection after a restart.
Facebook, however, didn't really clarify if the offline mode would be working for Instagram Stories. However, the company is expected to include the feature given the fact that Snapchat may include it in their own app's offline mode very soon.
