Microsoft Project Scorpio Officially Announced to Make its Debut at 2017 E3
Charles LimMicrosoft has continually been teasing fans with slight details regarding their upcoming new Project Scorpio gaming console for the past few months. However, the company hadn't really pegged a specific date for its unveiling. Now, Microsoft's own Xbox head, Phil Spencer, has confirmed that they will be pulling the curtains off their next generation console at the 2017 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) event in June.
Prior to Spencer's announcement, the majority of the reports had speculated that Microsoft could be holding a special event to unveil the new console before E3. Some had even pegged the company's May 2 event as the most likely date for the console's unveiling. Now, all of those rumors can finally be put to rest as Microsoft is apparently now committed to making the upcoming E3 event the venue for its big unveiling.
According to The Verge, the official name of the console as well as its design, pricing, and features will be the topic of discussion during the big event. The publication also showed off the invitation they got from Microsoft for the event, which they posted on their Twitter account.

Ahead of its unveiling, numerous details about the console's hardware have already been revealed. As reported by Euro Gamer, Project Scorpio has been revealed to be significantly more powerful than any of its competitors. The console will apparently run at 6 teraflops, which is a big jump from the 4.2 teraflop performance of the PlayStation 4 Pro.
Project Scorpio has also been revealed to come with 12 GB of GDDR5 memory. Despite the previous speculations of a possible shift to AMD Ryzen chips, the upcoming console will apparently still be using Jaguar-based CPUs. However, the CPU's have reportedly been tweaked to run at 1,172 MHz, resulting in a 31 percent performance increase compared to the processors on the Xbox One.
