Nintendo Unveiled New Joy-Con Battery Pack and Neon Yellow Color Option
Charles LimGamers who were lucky enough to get their hands on a Nintendo Switch console, amidst its apparent shortage, will now have something to look forward to in the coming months. Nintendo has just announced that they will be releasing several new hardware add-ons that will let players customize and better utilize their gaming systems.
According to The Verge, Nintendo unveiled several new accessories for the Switch during a live-stream event that was held today. The company revealed that it will be releasing a brand new neon yellow-colored Joy-Con controller that will complement the existing blue, red, and gray options. All of the controllers can be mixed and matches, which means that players can equip their Switch consoles with a variety of color combinations.
As per GSM Arena, Nintendo also unveiled a new battery pack made specifically for the Joy-Con controller. The battery peripheral doesn't have an internal lithium-ion battery like most backup packs. Instead, the Joy-Con battery pack gets its power from standard or rechargeable AA batteries.
It isn't clear just yet why Nintendo had decided to supply the battery pack as the Joy-Con controllers themselves don't really die that easily. When fully charged, Joy-Con controllers can last up to 20 hours each. The controllers are also automatically charged when they are attached to the main dock of the gaming system.
However, the battery pack does become handy on long trips when the dock is unavailable. The controllers do utilize their own internal power when used in either tablet mode or when attached to the stock controller grips. With the battery pack, the controllers can now be charged even when in use and the pack is designed to provide player's with additional grip as well.
Nintendo announced that both the neon yellow Joy-Con controllers and the AA controller battery pack will be launched on June 16. The date will also coincide with the company's release of their brand new fighting video game, "Arms."
