‘Sherlock’ Season 5, Not Possible: Co-Creator Explains
RommelBBC’s “Sherlock” has been one of the most popular shows of the network since “Downtown Abbey.” Fans and viewers of the show were in for a treat last time as the Season 4 of the show returned on air after some years of hiatus. With the end of Season 4, fans of the hit miniseries have been hoping for Sherlock’s return for a new season. However, one of the show’s co-creators has some dismal news to offer them.
Mark Gatiss, co-creator of the show, in his recent pronouncements in WhatsOnStage Awards explained the rationale why “Sherlock” Season 5 may no longer return. He said: “I honestly don’t know if there will be any more. It’s incredibly difficult to get Benedict and Martin’s diaries to align. And obviously, we left it in a very happy place…if that’s the end I’d be very happy where we left it.”
"Sherlock" Season 5 renewal is still pretty being discussed. The busyness of the show’s stars, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman can be attributed to their being recent Hollywood fixtures due to their rising popularity since working on the show. For one, Cumberbatch has been part of the Marvel cinematic universe by playing the titular role of “Dr. Strange” in the upcoming film of the same name. For his part, Freeman has likewise joined the Marvel cinematic universe when he joined the cast of “Captain America: Civil War.” Their recent engagements have made it difficult to coordinate their schedules in order to shoot for the show.
"Sherlock" Season 5, not possible anymore? Ending the show has been previously brought up by Steven Moffat, one of the show’s masterminds, when he said: “if this is the last time—and I’m not planning on it to be, but it might be—it is possible that we could end it.”
“We couldn’t have ended it on any of the previous series because there was what have been great cliffhangers,” Moffat added.
Fans of the "Sherlock" miniseries are, nevertheless, still hopeful that the show will be able to return to delight them once again. Whether or not this will come to fruition; only time can tell.
