Golden State Warriors Andrew Bogut Reunion Possible, CBA Rule Does Not Apply To Dubs

A Golden State Warriors Andrew Bogut reunion is now possible. Though there have been reports that the Dubs is not allowed to sign its former center due to an NBA rule a loophole on the same rule may allow the GSW to sign Bogut.

The current NBA CBA does not allow teams to reacquire players that they have waived or traded within the same calendar year. This was the rule pointed out by NBA pundits that will make the Andrew Bogut GSW reunion not possible.

However, as reported by SB Nation, there is a loophole in the said NBA CBA rule. With the said loophole, the Golden State Warriors may still sign Andrew Bogut once he clears his waivers.

It can be remembered that Bogut was traded to the Dallas Mavericks before the season start for a future conditional second-round pick. However, the trade was really made to make way for the Kevin Duran Golden State Warriors signing.

Andrew Bogut was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in a package that included Justin Anderson and a protected future first-round draft pick in exchange of Sixers forward/center Nerlens Noel. The 76ers is reportedly expected to waive the Australian Center.

The current NBA CBA in place does not allow the last team to have traded or waived a player to reacquire the same player within a calendar year. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the reacquisition rule will not prevent the GSW to sign Bogut as the ban is only imposed to the most recent team.

Since the Mavericks traded Bogut, it is the Mavs that will be considered as the most recent team to have traded the player. As such, the Golden State Warriors may still go after Andrew Bogut once he has cleared his waivers.

Though the GSW still needs to bolster its inside defense, the emergence of Javale McGee as a descent rim protector may prevent the Golden State Warriors Andrew Bogut Reunion. Reports also suggest that the Dubs is likely to keep Briante Weber on its roster.
