Google Just Added Voice Shopping To Its Google Home Smart Speaker
Cris Xander JulianoThe Amazon Echo may have a two year lead over its rival Google Home, but the latter is certainly catching up as it recently added a voice shopping capability to its list of functionalities. Owners of the smart speaker are now allowed to shop for everyday essentials without leaving their rooms.
However, much like its counterpart, it has its limitation according to cnet. Before you can start shopping with your voice, you first need to set up the device.
Open the Google Home app on your Android or iOS smartphone, proceed to More Settings and under Google Account Settings, select Payments. Agree to the terms and conditions.
Then under Payment Method, enter your card information and billing address. Follow on-screen prompts and select your delivery address.
Shopping with your Google Home device will give you results from stores such as Fry's Electronics, Costco, PetSmart, Whole Foods and over 50 Google Express retailers. Moreover, you won't have to pay additional services or membership fees to stores that typically require the same through April 30.
To activate voice shopping, you just need to say phrases such as; "OK Google, how do I shop?" or "Ok Google, reorder Old Spice Deodorant."
Ordering items over $100 in Google Home is now allowed. If you try, Google will just say, "I can't order items over $100. Should I add it to your shopping list?" However, items that are in the shopping list can't be ordered, it's just a checklist in a Google Keep note. What you can do is enter your Google Home history under More Settings and My Activity via the Google Home app. There, you will find a card with a link to a Google search for whatever you asked Google Home to order.
