Nintendo will continue to support the Nintendo 3DS. This has been confirmed by Nintendo Director Shinya Takahashi in a recent interview.

The upcoming March 3 Nintendo Switch release date has led many to speculate that the video company may decide to scrap its current hand held console. The video game company may stop supporting the Nintendo 3DS since the Switch is already a home and hand held console hybrid.

In an interview with Telegraph, Shinya Takahashi, Nintendo Director and General Manager of Entertainment Planning and Development has revealed the video game company's plan for the Nintendo 3DS. According to Takahashi, Nintendo will continue to support its current hand held video game device.

Takahashi said that the Nintendo 3DS still have a lot of potential as the first video game system for kids. This is because the current Nintendo hand held game device is cheaper compared to the Nintendo Switch.

This was also the stand of Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima when asked if Nintendo Switch will cause the eventual demise of the Nintendo 3DS. The Nintendo President even said that the Switch and 3DS can co-exist.

Takahashi also revealed that they are still thinking of games for the Nintendo 3DS. The Nintendo Director said that video game fans can expect 3DS games not only this year but in 2018 as well.

Though Takahashi's statements mean that Nintendo 3DS games are coming, he did say that they will support the Nintendo 3DS until 2018. There is no clear indication that the video game company will support the hand held video game device beyond that year.

Takahashi also said that the company's hope is for those who play with the Nintendo 3DS to the Nintendo Switch in the future. In a recent interview, Nintendo President Kimishima denied the reports that they are planning to release a successor to the Nintendo 3DS.
