Apple iPhone 8 & Samsung Galaxy S8 May Be Muscled Down By Chinese Smartphone Makers
Ritwik RoyThe smartphone market is highly competitive and the biggest challenge faced by Samsung and Apple, the top players in the western market, is from Chinese smartphone makers. Of course, in the long run, a healthy competition is beneficial from brands as it will result in lower smartphone prices. However, Chinese smartphones are trying to capture every market but have kept its own market open mostly to manufacturers from their country only. There's a huge set of buyers longing for something different and Chinese phones are drawing their attention.
According to Express, numerous Chines smartphone makers will be presenting their produce at the MWC 2017. They will grab a lot of media attention and hence more consumer awareness. Marketing plays a key role in the Chinese phone makers' strategy and Huawei already has partnerships with leading European football clubs. Even Oppo and Vivo are capturing media attention in a big way through relentless marketing efforts. These Chinese smartphone brands are able to accomplish two things.
One, these brands provide a welcome alternative to Apple iPhones and Samsung Galaxy devices and two, the brands develop smartphones that have at least half the price tag of premium brands. They provide top-end specs and features at great reduced prices and that is a major problem Samsung and Apple are facing. The two are gearing up for mega releases in the likes of Apple iPhone 8, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8. Chinese smartphone makers may ruin the show somewhat.
For example, OnePlus 3 offers some phenomenal specs and camera setup at just £329 (US$400 approx), way less than an iPhone or high-end Samsung device. Huawei went past Samsung in the first quarter of 2016 to become the world's most profitable Android device maker. This could be partly because of the Galaxy Note 7 disaster but that's a prestigious achievement nonetheless. In the Chinese market, brands like Apple and Samsung are nowhere near these Chinese smartphone makers.
