‘Shameless’ Season 8 Confirmed Following Negotiation On Emmy Rossum’s Pay Standoff
Jack Peterson"Shameless" has been renewed for an eighth season following the resolution of a pay standoff between Emmy Rossum and William H. Macy. Apparently, Rossum asked to be paid equal salary if not more than what her co-star Macy gets, which may have caused the delay of the series renewal. Fortunately, Warner Bros. TV already closed a deal with the actress, assuring financial parity between the two leading stars of the hit Showtime dramedy.
A report by Deadline revealed that Rossum and Macy will be getting equal wage for their portrayals on "Shameless" Season 8. The news was confirmed during the Television Critics Association winter press tour where Showtime President of Programming David Nevins clarified that Rossum's case was justified.
Nevins said that the actress will still be joining the show after the negotiation that would work out for her and for the rest of the teams behind the series. In addition, he also expressed how Rossum's presence is important not just on screen but also behind the cameras. He revealed that the star directed in the past and will continue to do so this year.
Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly had the chance to catch an interview with Macy's wife Felicity Huffman on the Golden Globes red carpet. When asked about her reaction at her husband's support for Rossum's pay standoff, the "Desperate Housewives" star said, "It was an 'of course' moment."
"I mean, Bill loves women and thinks there should be equal rights, and the fact it hasn't been ratified since, what, 1927, is pretty shocking. So, of course, he's going to stand up and say a woman should make as much as a man," Huffman continued.
It can be recalled that Macy supported his co-star when Rossum made the headlines because of her fight for salary parity. The actor reportedly said that it's about time for men and women to have equal rights.
"Shameless" Season 8 is expected to return in 2017 on Showtime. No official details have been revealed about the plot yet.
