‘Prison Break’ Season 5: Why An Original Character Is Not Returning; No Official Air Date Announced Yet
Jack PetersonThe team behind "Prison Break" Season 5 has not announced its official air date yet but the Twitter page @PBwritersRoom is filled with information about what await fans come spring 2017. Expected to air every Tuesdays on Fox, the revival will see all the original characters and some new ones. However, a familiar face, Alexander Mahone (William Fichtner), is not returning this season.
In the most recent Q&A hosted by @PBwritersRoom, a fan asked whether Mahone will be featured in the show's reboot to which the writer answered, "We will not be seeing Mahone this season." Though the reason why Mahone is not appearing on Season 5 was not revealed in the tweet, an earlier report by Digital Spy claimed that the reason behind is that the series creator Paul Scheuring did not see a fitting story for the character.

The news came from actor Robert Knepper who gives life to the character of T-Bag. Knepper is set to reprise his role along with the rest of the original characters, Sarah Wayne Callies as Sara Tancredi, Amaury Nolasco as Fernando Sucre, Rockmond Dunbar as C-Note and the famous series brothers Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller as Lincoln Burrows and Michael Scofield, respectively.
It was also previously revealed that a new gay character will make an appearance on "Prison Break" Season 5. The said character is set to play an integral part in the show as confirmed by @PBWritersRoom in another Q&A session via Twitter.
Meanwhile, Fox TV Chairman and CEO Gary Newman detailed how "Prison Break" Season 5 came in production in an interview with Variety. Reportedly, the network saw the success of the show internationally and its ratings on Netflix made them realize that fans are missing the show.
That said, Newman revealed that he regularly consulted Scheuring about the possibility of a reboot but the latter was not initially open to it. Then one day, an agent of the series creator called Fox TV, which of course, came as good news not only to Newman but also to the large fanbase of the show.
