"Doctor Who" reached another achievement recently, many thanks to its holiday offering. With their numbers going high up, the BBC America powerhouse may have not felt cold at all during the winter before the year's end.

Titled "Doctor Who: The Return of Doctor Mysterio," the latest addition to the long-running franchise is happy to release its statistics in terms of viewers, especially as the show will resume early 2017. Apparently, the triumph ran all the way to social media on Christmas night.

According to Deadline, "Doctor Who: The Return of Doctor Mysterio" had 1.7 million total viewers then, comprised of approximately 900,000 adults of 18 to 49 and adults 25 to 54 in Nielsen Live+3 ratings. To top it all off, it was said to be BBC America's top telecast of the year transpiring across all key demos -- which brings the point of the number one most social program on Facebook and Twitter, as mentioned.

Story-wise, the special episode sees how the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) allies with a masked superhero to take on an intriguing adventure in New York. A group of aliens that swap the brains of citizens threatens to strike and it is up to the rest of the Doctors with the help of Nardole (Matt Lucas) to figure out the entirety of The Ghost. The peculiar figure is yet to be unmasked and it is up to the Doctor to save Manhattan, as Slant Magazine reports.

The return of the titular character has struck fans with a rather uncanny liking after being away for over a year, showcasing how the "Doctor Who" saga can team up with the superhero genre, as well. That being said, fans can wait for the next series of episodes by February 2017.
