"Sherlock" Season 4 spoilers reveal that there will be a long break before the BBC series airs a new season of the Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman drama on TV. Speaking with Digital Spy, writers Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss shared their plans while the show will be going on a hiatus.

Moffat explained that after "Sherlock" Series 4, he and Gatiss will be working on new things together. This means that Moffat and Gatiss may be on the process of doing a new story for the show or creating an entirely new series out of their break.

While many fans worried that Moffat will leave after Season 4 because of his recent plans to exit "Doctor Who," the co-writer told the publication that he has no intentions of doing the same with the BBC series. According to Moffat, they will be in charge of "the keys to Baker Street for a bit."

Meanwhile, "Sherlock" Season 4 cast news also reveals that Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington, who play John and Mary Watson respectively, have already split. Abbington admitted during an interview that it was hard for her and Watson to play their respective roles in season 4, reports Telegraph.

According to the actress, the plot for the upcoming season will see John and Mary take on the role of new parents. Abbington admitted that "there were some pressure points" while filming their scenes, but they both went through the process smoothly.

"Sherlock" Season 4 premieres on Jan. 1 on BBC.
