iMac 2017 Release Date, Specs & Other Rumors [VIDEO]; Next All-In-One Desktop To Come With Intel Kaby Lake Processor?

Apple's Oct. 2016 event, which took place at Town Hall in Cupertino and where the new MacBook Pro was unveiled, failed to impress tech buffs who have been restlessly waiting for the next iMac as the company did not shed more light on the highly anticipated all-in-one PC.

Rumors running rampant suggest that Apple did not mention the iMac 2017 in a bid to buy time in waiting for the much-lauded Intel Kaby Lake processor. Interestingly, the same reasoning was attributed to the MacBook Pro 2016's delayed release; however, the notebook still arrived with an Intel Skylake chip. On the other hand, there's hearsay that a new batch of MacBook Pro is slated to hit the store shelves in March next year.

In the wake of Intel Skylake's issue, Apple was recommended to replace it with the server-grade Intel Xeon processor. Both employ LGA-1151 socket standards for the CPU to connect to the motherboard, GameNGuide reported.

This is considered more as an alternative, in case Apple is unable to acquire enough supply of the Kaby Lake SoCs next year. Many also believe this to be the same reasoning as to why no iMac was announced back in October.

iMac 2017 Specs, Features & Other Details

While there's no word yet on whether or not the Apple iMac 2017 will feature an Intel Kaby Lake chipset, the tech firm is likely to leave no stone unturned in their bid to make the new iMac a powerhouse of a machine. This move seems quite logical, considering the fact that it will be assigned a slew of high-performance tasks such as gaming and photo/video editing.

The Apple iMac 2017 is also rumored to either be a VR-compatible device or come with an Intel Kaby Lake hardware support. If this speculation comes to fruition, Apple will then equip the iMac 2017 with the capability of aptly managing resources and supporting high performance tasks, TheBitBag reported.

Aside from the SoC, it is imperative for Apple to consider GPU support as well. If the tech firm is moving forward in the direction of making the new iMac VR-ready, a Polaris 11 or Polaris 10 GPU could compliment its potential chipset.
