'Devil May Cry 5' or 'DmC 2'? New Game Possibly In The Works As Capcom Plans To Revive 'Dormant' IP's
J RoseFans of "Devil May Cry" may expect great news soon as Capcom is possibly preparing to work on its highly anticipated follow up. But would it be a sequel to "Devil May Cry 4," or the recent "DmC" reboot?
Capcom To Revive Dormant IP's
Capcom has recently announced its plans to revive some of the publisher's neglected franchises, following the suprise reveal of "Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite." The IP has had a title drought for almost five years.
"Capcom is currently focused on reviving series that have not had new entries recently, or otherwise dormant IP," the publisher said in a press release. "Beginning with 'Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite,' a return for the series following a five-year hiatus, Capcom looks to enhance its corporate value even further by utilizing its library of rich contents."
"Devil May Cry 5" Or "DmC 2"?
"Prior to this announcement, there has been a lot of speculations about a possible "Devil May Cry 5," which is rumored to do away with Ninja Theory's "DmC" reboot.
Capcom released "DmC: Devil May Cry" in 2010, serving as a reboot for the whole series. It was said that Japanese Capcom staff encouraged the Western staff to take the franchise to a different direction, due to the fact that "Devil May Cry 4" fared poorly sales wise compared to other action games, according to Eurogamer.
The reboot initially received negative response especially from the fans of "DmC." The game, however, received generally positive reviews when it was released eventually.
Despite the positive reception, some fans still want the franchise to pick up where "Devil May Cry 4" has left off, instead of continuing Ninja Theory's reboot of the game.
Other Franchises
Apart from "Devil May Cry," Capcom may also look at reviving the PS1 classic game "Dino Crisis," which will definitely a great move for the publisher. The company may possibly be working on a new "Mega Man" video game as well, but these are mere speculations at this point.
So will it be "Devil May Cry 5" or "DmC 2"? We will find out soon so stay tuned.
